Get your skates ready, the Rive indoor ice rink is open from Saturday, October 25 and it will stay open right through to March 1, 2026, including during school holidays. What started as a small passion project has grown into a thriving brewery known for its fresh, bold flavours  and strong community spirit. The brothers craft a wide range of beers right in the heart of Nyon and recently created a special brew just for the town the aptly named “1260.” During the tour, we will be guided through their brewing process, hear about their story, and, of course, answer all your beer-related questions. It’s a relaxed, behind-the-scenes peek into one of Nyon’s most loved local gems. There's a new beer on the block and it's called 1260 - the official beer of Nyon! It's no longer just exclusively about the local wines this region has to offer. The people of Nyon also want to drink beer at apéros and making sure it's a local product is still important.How did the project come about? This was the incentive to launch a new project in collaboration with Levatura and with Nyon's local "micro brasserie" Captaine Mousse . It was easier said than done because one of the main challenges was to create a fully local beer, and that meant the yeast had to be local too! The aim was to make a beer accessible to the public but also not too strong. The Process Yeast can be made from flowers, seeds and plants. These were collected from the local area including Parc de la Môrache and the Château de Nyon. Several combinations were tested out, until a locally sourced winner, that worked well to make a beer was found. Next, the Nyon brewery Captaine Mousse was to brew the beer. The ingredients of the beer can be varied to get different flavours, but yeast is not one of the elements that usually changes. Thankfully, the process was a success. Finding a Name The local population were called on to suggest names for the new beer. 120 proposals for names were give and the following 3 final names were put to the vote: La Mouss'à Nyon La 1260 La Noviodunum The clear winner was 1260 - the Nyon postcode. What type of beer is it? It's a pale ale made with Orge malté and light hop. In terms of flavour it is an easy-to-drink beer with little bitterness and a flavoursome aftertaste. What will it be used for? Official and local events mostly. 2,700 33cl bottles of the beer have been produced. Behind Switzerland’s newest (and furriest) ambassador is Clint Bauld, an Australian entrepreneur, creator, and marmot enthusiast who found a new home in Switzerland. "After years as a tour guide and a traveller and with young children to inspire, I wanted to spark their curiousity for the world around them. Travel didn’t always excite them at first, but I wondered if a playful guide could change that. That thought became the seed of an idea: what if a small, overlooked alpine animal, the marmot, could become a character to lead adventures? What started as a way to share discovery with my kids grew into a brand rooted in the Swiss Alps, but designed to inspire exploration anywhere in the world." Who Is Marco? Marco is a curious marmot from the mountains near Zermatt with a big heart and an even bigger sense of adventure. Marco isn’t your ordinary marmot. One day, he decided to leave his alpine burrow to explore Switzerland’s best spots for families and kids. Going from castles and museums to beaches and chocolate shops. Why? Because Marco believes adventures are even better when shared. His mission is to inspire families, children and parents alike, to discover the magic and treasures of Switzerland together. One city (and chocolate bite) at a time. Marco’s Adventures in Nyon A few months ago, Marco set off from the Alps with a BIG dream: to see the most beautiful places in Switzerland. Like Tintin, he couldn’t resist a grand adventure and that brought him right here to Nyon ! He explored Château de Nyon , the plage , the Roman columns , the Roman Museum , and the Lake Museum . Everywhere he went, he thought Wow, families and kids would love this! That’s when Marco had a brilliant idea: he would make children’s travel and exploring books that are fun, educational, interactive, life-like and of course cute (like him, after all, everyone loves marmots!). Three Books for Each City Marco didn’t stop at just one book. He wanted something for every kind of young explorer and so, he created three books per city , each available in English and French: Story Book ( red )  A beautifully illustrated tale of Marco’s adventures. If you spotted more bikes than usual whizzing through Nyon, Prangins, Gland, and Rolle this September, you weren’t imagining things, that’s Cyclomania! The nationwide challenge by PRO VÉLO Suisse  turned everyday cyclists into local heroes, clocking up an impressive 15,708 kilometres  in our region alone. That’s roughly the distance from Nyon to Sydney (if anyone’s feeling ambitious!). Cycling Through Rain and Shine This year, 273 riders  took part, down from last year’s 380 and considering September’s wet weather, that’s still a solid turnout. Those who did brave the rain certainly made their kilometres count. Across Switzerland, nearly 12,000 participants  pedalled a combined 1.26 million kilometres , surpassing last year’s average distance per cyclist. Pedal Power with a Purpose. Beyond the fun, prizes, and bragging rights (including a stay at Peaks Place in Laax  for one lucky Nyon rider), Cyclomania has a deeper goal.Each tracked ride helps local authorities understand how and where people cycle. This is valuable data that informs future urban planning. These anonymous mobility insights reveal which routes are most popular, where safety needs improving, and how cycling infrastructure can evolve. As Roxane Faraut, Municipal Councillor for Infrastructure in Nyon, explains: “Every pedal stroke brings us closer to a safer, smarter, and more sustainable way of moving around.” Rolling Toward the Future So, hats off (or should we say helmets off?) to everyone who joined Cyclomania this year. On 29 September 2025, Spinbox Studio in Gland is inviting the community to ride for a cause. The independent fitness space will host a World Heart Day Charity Ride, with three high-energy spin sessions throughout the day, all in support of the Swiss Heart Foundation. Participants can book from a choice of three ride times (17:30, 18:30 & 19:30), each led by experienced coaches, complete with energising playlists, proper bike setup, and a supportive cool down. Tickets are CHF 35, with additional donation options available, and everyone is encouraged to show up with a touch of red in honour of heart health. For those who can’t get on the bike, there’s still the chance to contribute, either by donating or simply cheering the riders on. But at Spinbox, it’s never just about the ride.
