  • GAOS Brings Elf the Musical to the Nyon Stage This Christmas

Big Laughs and Big Hearts Plus Your Chance to Win Tickets! Nothing marks the start of the festive season quite like a GAOS Christmas show and this year, the theatre community is bringing one of the most beloved holiday stories to life. Elf the Musical , based on the hit film starring Will Ferrell, will take to the stage this December, promising joy, sparkle, and a generous dose of Christmas cheer. At the centre of the story is Buddy the Elf, enthusiastic, heartfelt, and unmissably iconic. We caught up with Sebastian Miazza, the actor stepping into Buddy’s tights and boundless optimism, about the magic behind the production and what audiences can expect. Stepping Into Buddy’s Shoes When Sebastian learned he’d been cast as Buddy, his reaction was instant and unforgettable. “Like a child going to Disneyland for the first time,” he says. “It felt like a unique opportunity to bring such an iconic character to life. I was incredibly grateful, and excited at the idea of bringing Buddy to life with and in front of my children.” The Heart of GAOS is Community GAOS productions are known for their warmth and collaborative spirit, something Sebastian says is at the very core of Elf the Musical. “GAOS shows involve up to a hundred people to bring them to life,” he explains. “They simply wouldn’t exist without all the people working both onstage and off. We are all aware of this joint effort, the enormous amount of work that each person puts in, the sacrifices that this entails, and the energy that must be invested. This is one of the reasons for the incredible community spirit at GAOS. Every detail matters, the sneeze of a passerby in a street scene, or Buddy’s first kiss under a huge glittery Christmas tree.” Rehearsals, he says, have felt less like work and more like a shared adventure. “It’s a fantastic experience, an extraordinary journey. A journey that starts as a group and ends as a family.” Favourite Moments (And a Few Challenges) Choosing one favourite scene? Impossible. “ Greatest Dad  is iconic and a blast to perform, but Sparklejollytwinklejingley  and Nobody Cares About Santa  are fantastic ensemble numbers. Then there are all those little comedic moments performed by each character that never stop, and they are for me fantastic. ” But even an elf has obstacles.... “Dancing is probably my biggest personal challenge. My dancing skills are about as good as my knowledge of nuclear physics. Close to zero.” And here’s a confession: “Duets terrify me. Singing to seduce Jovie feels like skydiving at every rehearsal, and probably still will during every show!” What Audiences Can Expect If you’ve never been to a GAOS production before, this is the perfect place to start. “ GAOS is constantly striving to improve and has been doing so for over 50 years. When I saw my first GAOS show as a member of the audience, I was impressed by the quality, standard, and talent of all the people who have been contributing to these shows for so long. That's why it's such a unique opportunity to discover these musicals in the region, without having to go to the West End or Broadway. ” As for the show itself? “Buddy the Elf is like Christmas and Broadway had a baby. It’s an emotional roller coaster, funny for all ages, and a real feel-good Christmas musical. And you don’t need kids as an excuse to come it’s a perfect date night, far better than the new Christmas comedies on Netflix!” The Story For those new to Buddy’s world: Elf the Musical  follows a human raised by elves at the North Pole who travels to New York City to find his real father and discover where he truly belongs. Along the way, he spreads laughter, kindness, and holiday magic. WIN Two Tickets! Thanks to our friends at GAOS, we’re giving away two tickets  to the Thursday 11 December  performance of Elf the Musical . Competition question: Who played Buddy the Elf in the original movie? Deadline:  1 December Midday when we will draw a winner at random. Perfect for families, couples, groups of friends, or anyone craving festive sparkle, this is the show to kick off your Christmas season. For ticket information and performance times visit Gaos.ch

  • Meet the Team Behind Living in Nyon

Living in Nyon doesn’t run on algorithms or robots (thank goodness). It runs on people, three of us in fact, who care about this town and enjoy sharing its stories. We bring our own voices, ideas and passions to the mix, and together we keep LIN alive with the things that make Nyon special. As an association, we also enjoy welcoming new faces, so if you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Mandy Bronsil Mandy has been an integral part of Living in Nyon team since 2020. She brings vibrant energy, local knowledge, and a real passion for connection. For her, this beautiful region is more than a place to live. It’s a community full of stories, opportunities, and inspiring people. A graduate of the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne and fluent in English, French, Dutch, and Spanish, Mandy’s career has taken her from team-building and career development workshops to launching her own consultancy, B-Inspired . She’s also a TEDx speaker, Mastermind founder, and the driving force behind The Clubhouse , a lively co-working and meetup space in the heart of Nyon. At LIN, Mandy uncovers what makes the town tick, from local artisans to community events and inspiring individuals. She believes community isn’t just where we live; it’s how we connect, support, and grow together. When she’s not writing or leading workshops, you might find her hosting a mastermind session, diving into improv, or enjoying a good games night. Her favourite part of Living in Nyon? Working alongside the people who make this town so creative, welcoming, and unique. Seema Sharma Seema has lived in the centre of Nyon for well over a decade, watching the town evolve while keeping its unique rhythm and charm. That mix of old and new is what she loves bringing to life at LIN; highlighting local businesses, profiling voices, and sharing what makes this town feel like home. With British roots, Indian heritage, and a Swiss home, Seema is drawn to the spaces where cultures meet and communities grow. She believes meaningful communication bridges people and communities - a belief that runs through everything she does. Beyond LIN, she is the founder of The Hormone Harmony Network , where she supports women, and the organisations they work within, through the (peri)menopause transition with practical tools and compassionate guidance. She’s also a content writer   and creative partner, helping individuals and teams cut through the noise with clear, engaging storytelling and creative idea support. Her favourite part of Nyon? Its energy. Especially in the summer, when the buzz of festivals captures the town’s creativity and community spirit. Chance Newcombe Bilham If there’s one thing Chance is good at, it’s starting new chapters. After two decades between the UK and US, he’s now firmly rooted in Nyon. What began as a love story with a Swiss woman has grown into something bigger: a love for the town itself, its people, and the everyday rhythm of life here. These days, he’s raising a young family, lacing up his tennis shoes whenever he can, and enjoying the small-town feel that makes Nyon special. At LIN, Chance looks after partnerships , bringing fresh ideas, curiosity, and a good dose of humour to the team. He’s another pair of hands and a welcoming voice, helping keep the site useful and true to its purpose. • Nyon has its own official beer. 1260 by Cap'taine Mousse

There's a new beer on the block and it's called 1260 - the official beer of Nyon! It's no longer just exclusively about the local wines this region has to offer. The people of Nyon also want to drink beer at apéros and making sure it's a local product is still important. How did the project come about? This was the incentive to launch a new project in collaboration with Levatura and with Nyon's local "micro brasserie" Captaine Mousse . It was easier said than done because one of the main challenges was to create a fully local beer, and that meant the yeast had to be local too! The aim was to make a beer accessible to the public but also not too strong. The Process Yeast can be made from flowers, seeds and plants. These were collected from the local area including Parc de la Môrache and the Château de Nyon. Several combinations were tested out, until a locally sourced winner, that worked well to make a beer was found. Next, the Nyon brewery Captaine Mousse was to brew the beer. The ingredients of the beer can be varied to get different flavours, but yeast is not one of the elements that usually changes. Thankfully, the process was a success. Finding a Name The local population were called on to suggest names for the new beer. 120 proposals for names were give and the following 3 final names were put to the vote: La Mouss'à Nyon La 1260 La Noviodunum The clear winner was 1260 - the Nyon postcode. What type of beer is it? It's a pale ale made with Orge malté and light hop. In terms of flavour it is an easy-to-drink beer with little bitterness and a flavoursome aftertaste. What will it be used for? Official and local events mostly. 2,700 33cl bottles of the beer have been produced. You can buy a pack of 3 bottles for 12CHF at the following places in Nyon: Capybarra Le Local Vom Fass La Cave à Jules Beer Box So there you have it, another addition to the list of what makes Nyon so unique. Plus, it makes for an original Christmas present idea if you're looking for inspiration. Cheers!
