  • Nyon has its own official beer. 1260 by Cap'taine Mousse

There's a new beer on the block and it's called 1260 - the official beer of Nyon! It's no longer just exclusively about the local wines this region has to offer. The people of Nyon also want to drink beer at apéros and making sure it's a local product is still important. How did the project come about? This was the incentive to launch a new project in collaboration with Levatura and with Nyon's local "micro brasserie" Captaine Mousse . It was easier said than done because one of the main challenges was to create a fully local beer, and that meant the yeast had to be local too! The aim was to make a beer accessible to the public but also not too strong. The Process Yeast can be made from flowers, seeds and plants. These were collected from the local area including Parc de la Môrache and the Château de Nyon. Several combinations were tested out, until a locally sourced winner, that worked well to make a beer was found. Next, the Nyon brewery Captaine Mousse was to brew the beer. The ingredients of the beer can be varied to get different flavours, but yeast is not one of the elements that usually changes. Thankfully, the process was a success. Finding a Name The local population were called on to suggest names for the new beer. 120 proposals for names were give and the following 3 final names were put to the vote: La Mouss'à Nyon La 1260 La Noviodunum The clear winner was 1260 - the Nyon postcode. What type of beer is it? It's a pale ale made with Orge malté and light hop. In terms of flavour it is an easy-to-drink beer with little bitterness and a flavoursome aftertaste. What will it be used for? Official and local events mostly. 2,700 33cl bottles of the beer have been produced. You can buy a pack of 3 bottles for 12CHF at the following places in Nyon: Capybarra Le Local Vom Fass La Cave à Jules Beer Box So there you have it, another addition to the list of what makes Nyon so unique. Plus, it makes for an original Christmas present idea if you're looking for inspiration. Cheers!

  • Meet Marco the Marmot. Switzerland’s Cutest Little Explorer Visits Nyon.

Behind Switzerland’s newest (and furriest) ambassador is Clint Bauld, an Australian entrepreneur, creator, and marmot enthusiast who found a new home in Switzerland. "After years as a tour guide and a traveller and with young children to inspire, I wanted to spark their curiousity for the world around them. Travel didn’t always excite them at first, but I wondered if a playful guide could change that. That thought became the seed of an idea: what if a small, overlooked alpine animal, the marmot, could become a character to lead adventures? What started as a way to share discovery with my kids grew into a brand rooted in the Swiss Alps, but designed to inspire exploration anywhere in the world." Who Is Marco? Marco is a curious marmot from the mountains near Zermatt with a big heart and an even bigger sense of adventure. Marco isn’t your ordinary marmot. One day, he decided to leave his alpine burrow to explore Switzerland’s best spots for families and kids. Going from castles and museums to beaches and chocolate shops. Why? Because Marco believes adventures are even better when shared. His mission is to inspire families, children and parents alike, to discover the magic and treasures of Switzerland together. One city (and chocolate bite) at a time. Marco’s Adventures in Nyon A few months ago, Marco set off from the Alps with a BIG dream: to see the most beautiful places in Switzerland. Like Tintin, he couldn’t resist a grand adventure and that brought him right here to Nyon ! He explored Château de Nyon , the plage , the Roman columns , the Roman Museum , and the Lake Museum . Everywhere he went, he thought Wow, families and kids would love this! That’s when Marco had a brilliant idea: he would make children’s travel and exploring books that are fun, educational, interactive, life-like and of course cute (like him, after all, everyone loves marmots!). Three Books for Each City Marco didn’t stop at just one book. He wanted something for every kind of young explorer and so, he created three books per city , each available in English and French: Story Book ( red )  A beautifully illustrated tale of Marco’s adventures. Activity Book ( orange )  Packed with puzzles, mazes, games, and colouring fun. Colouring Book ( green )  Featuring marmots, squirrels, castles, and Swiss street scenes. No fairies, just real places and characters to colour in! From Nyon to All of Switzerland After his time in Nyon, Marco packed up his little marmot bag and continued his travels. Since then, he’s published books on Morges, Geneva, and Zurich , with Lausanne  next on his list! Marco Loves Switzerland is a heartwarming interactive and educational book series that follows the adventures of Marco the Marmot as he explores the wonderful landscapes and cultures of Switzerland. • Cyclomania 2025. 15,708 Kilometres of Pedal Power in the Nyon Region!

If you spotted more bikes than usual whizzing through Nyon, Prangins, Gland, and Rolle this September, you weren’t imagining things, that’s Cyclomania! The nationwide challenge by PRO VÉLO Suisse  turned everyday cyclists into local heroes, clocking up an impressive 15,708 kilometres  in our region alone. That’s roughly the distance from Nyon to Sydney (if anyone’s feeling ambitious!). Cycling Through Rain and Shine This year, 273 riders  took part, down from last year’s 380 and considering September’s wet weather, that’s still a solid turnout. Those who did brave the rain certainly made their kilometres count. Across Switzerland, nearly 12,000 participants  pedalled a combined 1.26 million kilometres , surpassing last year’s average distance per cyclist. Pedal Power with a Purpose. Beyond the fun, prizes, and bragging rights (including a stay at Peaks Place in Laax  for one lucky Nyon rider), Cyclomania has a deeper goal. Each tracked ride helps local authorities understand how and where people cycle. This is valuable data that informs future urban planning. These anonymous mobility insights reveal which routes are most popular, where safety needs improving, and how cycling infrastructure can evolve. As Roxane Faraut, Municipal Councillor for Infrastructure in Nyon, explains: “Every pedal stroke brings us closer to a safer, smarter, and more sustainable way of moving around.” Rolling Toward the Future So, hats off (or should we say helmets off?) to everyone who joined Cyclomania this year. Rain or shine, your efforts are helping shape the future of cycling across the Nyon region. One ride at a time. Learn more or sign up for next year’s challenge here

Are you a new expat navigating the complex Swiss childcare system or a busy parent trying to do it all? If life sometimes feels overwhelming, this local consultancy is here to help you put the pieces together. New to the Living In Nyon Directory, FamilyPro  is founded on one core belief: a balanced life isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. FamilyPro is putting this into action by hosting a free webinar exclusively for the Living In Nyon community on Thursday 30th October at 12:30 (full details below). Why It Matters If you’ve just moved to Switzerland or have lived here for years, you know that life admin is real, and in this country of rules, forms, and permits, it never really stops, it just evolves. Trusted, Personal, and Professional Born out of experience, founders Patricia Matiz (left)  and Brigitte Mermoud (right)  met while working in the work-life balance field and knew they wanted to build something that made a difference. • Finding Your Place in Nyon This Autumn

Nyon in September is an interesting time. The kids are back at school, the heat of the Summer sun is fading fast, and we begin the shift into Autumn mode. The last music festivals wrap up just as wine festivals begin, evenings grow cooler, and the vineyards start to glow gold. There’s a quieter kind of energy in the air and for newcomers, arriving in this season can feel lovely, though the fresh start often comes with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Adjusting to a new place isn’t always smooth. Some people settle quickly, finding their rhythm in no time, while for others it takes a little longer. Just when you feel like you’ve started to build a circle, friends move away, routines change, and you’re back to square one. It can feel unsettling, but it’s also part of living in a town that’s constantly moving and evolving. The good news is, it gets easier. Here are some ways to go from feeling like an outsider to feeling at home in Nyon. A Quick Snapshot of Nyon Nyon is home to about 23,500 residents  (as of June 2024), made up of long-time locals, Swiss newcomers, and many international arrivals. Almost 40% of the town are foreign nationals, which means there’s a rich mix of cultures, languages, and stories. Here at Living in Nyon, we are an association for people in Nyon and the surrounding areas who want to connect, share, and support one another. Through writing, events, our Sponsors and growing Member Directory, we aim to highlight local businesses, bring people together, and make things for any newcomers and long term residents just that bit easier. Find Your People Building connections from scratch has its challenges, especially when summer slows down. But there’s no shortage of opportunities. Try joining a class; French, yoga, Pilates, dance, or even improv classes . Watch for local happenings like walking tours, pop-ups, seasonal exhibits at the Musée romain, Château de Nyon, or Musée du Léman. Don’t wait for someone else to say hello. An invite for coffee, a walk by the lake, or even a simple greeting can open doors. I’ve made some of my closest friends that way. Over time, you’ll find your people, and you’ll be the person that new residents turn to for help and support. 2. Get Out & Explore Local Life Nothing makes a place feel more like home than getting out and walking its streets. Take a day trip to Lausanne or Geneva, discover a favourite spot by the lake, or join in the events like the upcoming Wine Festival (Fête de la Vigne, 3-4 October). Nyon has over 230 associations and foundations , covering everything from sport, arts and culture, to social causes and politics including us. Joining a group isn’t just about hobbies; it’s a way to share interests, find familiar faces, and build community. Go once, you might go back, and before you know it, you’ve got regular faces around you. It’s also the small moments, the bread from the bakery, the views from the castle, the cool sky at in the early evenings that will make Nyon feel like yours. The more you wander, the more those small routines turn into something meaningful. Expect the Ups and Downs Some days you’ll feel like you’ve cracked it; scheduling appointments, speaking bits of French, navigating local shops.  Other days, you’ll feel like packing your bags and moving somewhere easier (where Sunday shopping is actually a thing!). A big part of settling in is wrestling with paperwork; permits, insurance, health forms, often in a language you’re less confident in. It’s not always fun. But every form you manage, every question you understand, builds something: confidence and that sense of belonging so acknowledge the hard days and celebrate these small wins. Learn Some French (Even Just a Little!) Switzerland is wonderfully multilingual , and in Nyon you’ll catch snippets of Spanish, Portuguese, English, German and more in a single day.  You can get by without French, but even simple phrases go a long way. Learning how to confidently order a more complicated coffee drink (decaf oat milk latte) or order some antihistamines from the pharmacy without switching to English? That’s a small but satisfying win. Perfect grammar isn’t the goal, it’s the willingness to try. If full-on classes sound too daunting, try a casual conversation group instead. Give It Time Becoming local doesn’t happen overnight. It’s about showing up. For that lakeside walk, language exchange, or just stopping to chat with your neighbours. Before you know it, you’ll have your favourite cafés, your go-to weekend hikes, and the realisation that, somehow, Nyon has become home. Also: Our LIN Member Directory We’re growing our  LIN Member Directory . A space where local businesses, services, and community makers can be found. If you run something (teaching, coaching, crafts, cafés, you name it), or if you want to look up who and what is around, it’s there for you. Interested in being included? Just get in touch. Welcome to life in Nyon! Now, go grab that apéro, you’ve earned it. What helped you  settle in here? Drop your tips, insights or stories in the comments below. Your experience could be helpful to someone else just starting out.

  • MenoPower Day from Healthfirst. A Powerful Shift in the Menopause Conversation

Back in May, I had the privilege of attending HealthFirst’s MenoPower Day . An inaugral menopause awareness event dedicated to breaking the silence around menopause and giving women the tools, knowledge, and confidence they deserve. Held in Geneva, the day brought together experts, speakers, and women from all walks of life to learn, share, and connect. It was honest, open and quite empowering. Menopause is so often a whispered topic, but here it was centre stage. Not something to hide or downplay, but something to understand, prepare for, and embrace with support. What HealthFirst Brings to the Table Founded in 2012, Healthfirst Initially aimed to serve the English-speaking community around Lake Geneva with top-quality first aid training and health education. Today, under the leadership of Dr. Michelle Wright and Dr. Mecky McNeil, it delivers evidence-based health promotion across Switzerland and beyond. They offer a broad spectrum of services. From first aid and seminars for schools and companies, to mental health coaching and health screening assessments. Notably, Dr. Mecky, as Mental Health and Well-being Director, also brings her expertise being a certified health and performance coach to support those in menopause with holistic, lasting support. Left to Right: Dr Els van der Helm, Dr Mecky McNeil & Dr Michelle Wright Highlights from MenoPower Day The closing messages from Dr. Michelle Wright and Dr. Mecky McNeil summed up the spirit of the day beautifully: The science of menopause is clear: knowledge is power, and there is help available. Movement, rest, and nutrition are not luxuries. They are foundations of health. You’re not alone: what you're experiencing is real and valid. You deserve to be heard. At work, at home, and in the doctor’s office. We’re changing the conversation and replacing silence and stigma with shared understanding, community, and confidence. Liza Engel Meanwhile, Liza Engel’s  keynote also stood out: “ Many highly capable, ambitious women start questioning themselves thinking they’re losing their edge when, in reality, their bodies are just going through a natural transition. … That’s why I’m speaking at MenoPower. To share what I’ve learned and help women take back control instead of feeling like they’re losing their power. ” What Liza shared captured the personal impact of menopause while highlighting the importance of greater awareness and compassion. A Growing Movement The MenoPower Day wasn’t just a one-off event. HealthFirst is committed to continuing this work, with the next MenoPower event hopefully planned for Zurich on Saturday, 25 April 2026 . They are also exploring the idea of creating a dedicated session for men; helping partners, colleagues, and family members better understand and support the women in their lives going through menopause. HealthFirst’s intentional programming; from sleep tips to mindful movement, is exactly the type of empowerment I believe in. As a menopause coach myself, through The Hormone Harmony Network, attending MenoPower Day was more than inspiring, it reaffirmed to me that our shared voices and stories are powerful. Stay Connected with HealthFirst Their First Aid training continue to run across Switzerland, including the Lake Geneva region. You can find more information and secure your spot on courses covering CPR, emergency response, parent-and-baby first aid, and more. Stay connected and keep up to date with all that HealthFirst is doing by following them on Instagram ,  Facebook , or  LinkedIn   where they share ongoing updates, wellness tips, and announcements.

  • Leadership of the Future: Insights from LIN’s First Leadership Event

Living in Nyon (LIN) was proud to host its first Leadership of the Future  event last week. An evening that brought together leaders, professionals, and curious minds in the region to explore how leadership is evolving in today’s changing world. With a full house and an atmosphere charged with energy, the event combined expertise, perspectives, and dialogue in a way that made it both engaging and memorable. Our speakers We were honoured to welcome an exceptional panel: Gaelle Devins , Member of the Executive Board, Breitling Barbara Lax , CEO & Founder, Little Greenhouse Guido Gianasso , Professor of Leadership, HEC Paris Andrea Gerosa , Founder, ThinkYoung The discussion was moderated by Mike from Numeriq , one of LIN’s valued sponsors. Each of them shared valuable insights drawn from their fields of experience, sparking reflection and discussion among all those present. We were also delighted to welcome Alex Clarke from Albatross Group , our latest Directory Member, who joined us for the evening. A special thank you as well to a.one Business Park in Rolle for hosting us in such a welcoming space. Key themes and takeaways Shifting expectations of leadership Younger generations are redefining the way leadership is understood. Research shows they are demonstrating higher individualism , placing greater value on personal wellbeing and balance, rather than being employed “at all costs.” At the same time, they show lower power distance , a readiness to challenge authority when decisions do not align with logic or fairness. Interestingly, these patterns are emerging even in cultures traditionally associated with hierarchy, signalling a global shift in attitudes towards leadership and collaboration. Connection and trust as constants Despite cultural differences, one theme emerged as universal: people want to feel connected and trusted in their workplace. For leaders, this means prioritising openness, dialogue, and relationship-building to unlock purpose and genuine engagement within their teams. More than a panel discussion What made the evening so impactful was the spirit of exchange. Rather than a one-way panel, the event evolved into a dynamic conversation where participants shared ideas, asked questions, and offered new perspectives. It reflected the very essence of community; a space where knowledge flows freely, connections are built, and new ways of thinking take shape. The conversations didn’t stop there: the apéro that followed was abuzz with discussion , as guests connected over plenty of food and drinks, continuing the dialogue sparked during the panel. Looking ahead We are grateful to our speakers, attendees, and community members who helped make this first Leadership of the Future  event such a success. 📅 Save the date:  Our next event will take place on 2nd September 2026. We look forward to welcoming you again for another evening of dialogue, learning, and connection.
