Nyon council has lots of future plans for the heart of the town and its public spaces (see videos below). The lakeside area, Place du Château, Place de la Gare, Place Perdtemps will all be improved and changed. There is also a long term plan to create underground parking in Place Perdtemps. This square will be then grassed over to create a public space and a new commercial centre will be built on one side of the square.
One of the first improvements to be made in the next few weeks is the Grande Jetée area by the lakeside and there’s an opportunity for members of the public to help add some finishing touches to this space such as planting flowers and plants, painting a “deck”, helping to lay sand etc on these three dates: Saturday 23rd June from 09:00 -12:00, Monday 25th from 17:00 -19:00 and Wednesday 27th June from 15:00 -18.00. If you want to take part – register here.
The official inauguration of the Grande Jetée area will be on Saturday 30h June from 14:00 – 16.00. This will be cancelled in case of bad weather.
Take a look at the other future plans for the town in these videos below including what the town should look like in 2030!
This is an impression of what the Place de Château will look like. There will be no car parking in this area (access only for residents, the police and emergency services), there will be a new terrace area for the public, fountains and new vegetation. As Living in Nyon understands it, the area currently used as a café/ restaurant by the Auberge de Château will return to being used as a public space.
As for the area around the railway station, it is understood that the old railway lines that were once used by the NStCM train will be dug up, there will be more terraces and areas created which are favourable to pedestrians and cyclists.
Finally check this video out of what the town should look like by 2030. The council have grand plans! The video is in French but it’s easy to follow.
