Local band attracting a following, playing at Paléo on Saturday 27th July at 16:30"Kind and Kinky Zoo" are a local band (one member Oliver is from Nyon, he studied at the Conservatoire de Nyon), the others are from the surrounding region and in the past few years, they have garnered quite a following.
Ten years ago, the band were picked up by Australian label "Straight up Recordings", and one of their tracks went on to be used by the TV series "The Offspring". Craig Charles from BBC 6 Music has also raved about their music.

This funk, rock, groove, instrumental band first met many years ago as students (in law, medicine, chemistry) and after an impromptu, successful jam session in a "caveau" at Cully Jazz festival in 2005 they knew they were onto something special.
Living in Nyon spoke to drummer Sylvain from the band and asked how they managed to get picked up by an Australian label.
"After that gig in Cully we went on play at a few other places - these went well, so we then released two digital 7" recordings. We emailed everyone and sent these recordings everywhere! We were happy when "Straight up Recordings" were the ones that replied and took us on. We produced an album and went on to play in Germany, France, Italy and England but so far have never played a big venue in Switzerland. Until now!
It is hard to break into the market here, however we have finally cracked it and are absolutely delighted to be playing in the Club Tent. It's a big deal. We are all local and we have been coming to Paléo since we were kids, it means a lot to us.
It's an early slot but we hope our funked up, groove music can get the crowd fired up and dancing at the start of the evening".
As to the name "Kind and Kinky Zoo"?
"Well, when you are four guys spending hours and hours rehearsing and playing in a tiny place, you can get hot and sweaty. We were trying to work out a name for the band and we said we didn't really feel like we were an orchestra, a band or a group, we just felt like animals - hence the Zoo! As to Kind and Kinky, that was Olivier's suggestion, we liked it, so we just added the words together and voila!"
