The new traffic lights have now been switched on in Nyon. These traffic lights are part of a strategy from the “Mobilité and Travaux et Environnement” department of Nyon town council/ city government, to encourage the use of public transport by giving buses priority over cars. Buses will now run every 15 minutes and new routes have been created to make it easier for the commuter/passenger. See here.
Each bus has a transmitter that influences the lights to give the buses priority. This transport policy has been implemented to allow for the predicted increase in traffic when approximately 9,000 new residents will move to the area into the new buildings in the north of the town (Morâche, Petite-Prairie etc). This is expected to happen between now and 2020.
There have been a few teething problems with the new traffic system and drivers have been experiencing delays. What is your experience of the new system? Do feel free to comment here on this site or over on the Living in Nyon Facebook page.
